Our Mission

“What’s missing in most Christian’s parenting are the big grand perspectives and principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

These perspectives are radical and counterintuitive. When you parent with what the gospel says about God, you, your world, your children, and God’s grace, you not only approach parenting in brand new ways, but you carry the burden of parenting in a very different way.”

Paul David Tripp

Our Vision

“Here’s the thing about sin – you will never punish it out of your children. It’s not possible. The ONLY thing that changes a sinful heart is the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.”

Dr David Erickson

Parenting Courses and Resources

Christian Discipline is radical and counterintuitive. God’s Word does not provide a parenting method even though for decades culture has tried to turn a couple verses in Proverbs into one. The core of Resources for Christian Discipline’s approach to Biblical parenting is Jesus Christ’s sacrificial love.

It transforms every aspect of life. Especially parenting.

All the provided or recommend resources offered by Resources for Christian Discipline are in agreement with these principles:

  1. Children are Image Bearers worthy to be treated with dignity & respect.
  2. A parent’s love is never conditional– as modeled by the undeserving love God gives us.
  3. Children need clear boundaries with parents who follow through, while being kind and firm at the same time.
  4. A solid understanding of child development is integral to setting accurate expectations of our children and to provide effective discipline (teaching).
  5. Critical interpretation of scripture to discover its original and intended meaning (exegesis). This includes considering things like translation, surrounding text, literary context, and the intended audience of a text.
  6. Lastly, nothing replaces consistent, daily time in the Word and asking God for discernment. Pursue Jesus and share your concerns about discipline with Him in prayer.

Rehoboam: The Foolish Son of Solomon.

According to popular Christian parenting one would think Solomon “wrote the book” on Biblical discipline. Some Christian parents act like Proverbs (written mostly by Solomon) provided a God-ordained parenting method that would lead our children into heart change. Surely when Solomon used the rod of discipline to drive out foolishness from the heart of his child (Prov…

Part 2: Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child: Corporal Punishment.

The Book of Proverbs is not divine commands to obey, nor promises to claim. Those who claim spanking is Biblical are in fact going outside the concrete (or specific) words in Scripture by making a number of changes; age limits, severity, location, and instrument, to name a few. These positive changes represent growth in the ethical treatment…
